MEMORIAL TO VICTIMS OF THE BOMBING OF NIS 1941ST

On the Old Nis` cemetery “Gorica”, by tradition, held a memorial service to victims of the bombing of Nis, April 8th, 1941st. Under patronage of City Municipality of Palilula, memorial service organized Association of citizens “Old Nis”, that nursing tradition and take care of the preservation of historical and cultural heritage. With the presence of members of Association, representatives of the City of Nis – Cabinet of the Mayor, clergy of Nis` Diocese, representatives of public institutions and enterprises, Milos Stojkovic, member of the Council of the City Municipality of Palilula, laid a wreath on the memorial to killed people from Nis. Then they evoked memories of the bombing of Nis 70 years ago. The destructive march of fascist Germany, first years of Second World War, population of Serbia was bombed without notice. In ruins after bombing of civil population of Nis died about 400 people and more then 500 is more or less severely injured. On this place, said Nikola Jovanovic, President of the Association of citizens “Old Nis”, lie those who lost their lives in bombing, and who did not have offspring who would bury them or they were very poor. Their names are not known. That’s why we remember this date with the wish that something like this never happens to our people.
